On December 7, 2021, as part of the concept week “CHANGE” ECOLOGY, the Nazarbayev Intellectual School hosted an event for the 9th graders “Ecology of the planet is in our hands! Start saving now.”

The competition consisted of 3 rounds.

In the first round the students of each class defended the presentation that they prepared as homework on the topic “ECOLOGY and ECONOMY”. The presentation consisted of 4 slides: “The relationship between ecology and economics”; “Paper, water, heating. The impact of production on nature”; “Electricity. Energy saving” and “Fuel-free alternative energy”.

During the first round, all teams demonstrated a deep understanding of the concepts, had a goal and formed an important and interesting message about the topic “ECOLOGY and ECONOMY”. The works were interesting and meaningful, the content corresponded to the theme of the event.

The second round was held in the form of the game “Janitor”. There was a globe in front of the students – a reduced model of the globe covered with various rubbish (multi-colored papers were attached to the globe with the help of needles). For each correct answer, the teams were allowed to remove one piece of paper – this was the process of clearing the globe of garbage. The task of the teams was to try to understand what it was about and guess as soon as possible. The first team to give the correct answer won.

The third round was held in the form of a quiz game “Energy saving is not about economizing, but smart consumption!”. Five minutes were given to the interactive quiz. The participants were offered two categories “Energy Saving” and “Energy Consumption” to choose from. Each category contained 5 questions of difficulty from 10 to 50 points. The team with the highest score won the game.

The students actively participated in the game, followed the rules, answered the questions of the quiz in a quality and reasoned manner. They also showed a high level of interpersonal relationships in the team.

The jury consisted of 11th grade students who showed high professionalism and loyalty.

At the end, the results of all 3 rounds were summed up according to their criteria, the team from the 9D grade won and received the 1st place. II place was shared by 9 B and F grades. The third place was given to the team from 9A grade .

Thanks to the competition, everyone had a chance to think about protecting the environment, saving energy and many other factors that affect the preservation of our planet.

The hosts ended the event with the phrase of Bernard Shaw: “Now that we have learned to fly the air like birds, swim under water like fish, we lack one thing – to learn to live on earth as human beings.”
