Breakout sessions of the August conference on the updated content of education for teachers of grades 9 and 10 of comprehensive schools of the East Kazakhstan region and the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk were held on the basis of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Ust-Kamenogorsk.
On August 27, 697 teachers gathered to participate in breakout sessions from different parts of East Kazakhstan. Teachers came to get answers at an important period of introducing updated educational content into curricula of grades 9 and 10. During the day, an exhibition and sale of methodological literature was organized for them. The download zone was actively working, in which it was possible to copy all the materials prepared for them by Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools.
Breakout sessions traditionally began with a speech by Zhupat Oralovna Yerniyazova, director of the NIS of Chemistry and Biology in Ust-Kamenogorsk. In the speech, special emphasis was placed on familiarizing with the results of diagnostics of knowledge and skills of primary school students trained in updated programs in 30 pilot schools. In addition, the features of the updated educational content, changes in the certification of students in grades 9 were reflected. Separately, it was said about the methodological support for teaching subjects in secondary schools in English.
In total, teachers attended 49 workshops on the content of grades 9–10 programs, the application of the criteria-based assessment system, and the summative assessment of student achievement. In feedback, teachers noted the high quality of the workshops and the timeliness of the conducted sessions – before the start of the educational process.
To support teachers of the natural-mathematical cycle who were trained in English courses, 4 master classes were organized on the application of the CLIL approach in teaching. These workshops enabled teachers to improve their language and subject teaching skills. In their opinion, today there is a great need for activities aimed at supporting the teaching of subjects in English and improving the level of knowledge of the language.
